The Home of Benny Howard's
"Mike" and "Ike"

Welcome!

Welcome to the National Air Racing Museum, home of Benny Howard’s decorated Golden Age Air Racers, "Mike” and “Ike”. Mike n Ike

The Museum was founded to honor the exciting sport of Air Racing, which has a rich and storied past. From the early days of flamboyant aviators in their essentially homebuilt air racers, to post WWII fighters-turned-air racers, to today’s unlimited and Red Bull circuit, Air Racing has dazzled audiences of all ages.

The Museum is located in the Cleveland area and is actively pursuing a permanent home. Cleveland is the perfect location for the National Air Racing Museum because of the major impact the Cleveland National Air Races had on the sport.

From 1929 to 1949*, The City of Cleveland and Cleveland Municiple Airport were host to the greatest flying spectacle on the planet, holding multiple events including the prestigious Thompson and Greve Trophy Races.

The Museum intends to honor all of Air Racing, not just Cleveland's roll, and will encompass aircraft and artifacts from Racing's "Golden Age" to post WWII Fighters which were turned into Air Racers to today's Red Bull Air Races and the Reno Air Races. We will be expanding the website over the coming weeks, please check back often!

*The races were suspended for WWII and in 1930 the Races were held in Chicago, returning to Cleveland the following year.
